About Face Shape Detector

Face Shape Detector is a free tool that identifies your face shape and turns it into practical styling advice — hairstyles, glasses, sunglasses, earrings, necklines and more. It works on any modern device, right in your browser.

How the analysis works

When you upload a photo or use your camera, an on-device AI model locates hundreds of facial landmark points. From those points we measure four proportions used by stylists for decades:

  • Face length — hairline to chin.
  • Forehead width — across the upper brow.
  • Cheekbone width — the widest part of the face.
  • Jawline width — across the jaw angles, plus how full or pointed the chin is.

To keep results stable, every width is averaged over several landmark pairs and measured in an eye-aligned coordinate frame, so a tilted head doesn't skew the numbers. Those measurements become scale-independent ratios, which are matched against morphological templates for all seven shapes — Oval, Round, Square, Rectangle, Oblong, Heart and Diamond. Instead of rigid cut-offs, we use a soft scoring model, so you get a confidence level and a percentage breakdown rather than a single yes/no.

Privacy first

Your photo never leaves your device. All detection runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared. When you close the tab, the image is gone.

Accuracy & honest limits

Results are most reliable with a clear, front-facing photo in even lighting, hair off the face, and a neutral expression. Face shapes naturally overlap — many people sit between two shapes — so we show a percentage spread rather than pretending every face fits one box.
